The FORCE Takes
Over The Organisation Of 1600cc "International Historic Formula 2 Trophy" Series
Following negotiations with Terry Nightingale and the F2
"Grandees", we are pleased to announce that the FORCE has taken
over the organisation of the "International Historic F2 Trophy" series effective
from 1st November 2003, and race venues are currently being arranged for
the 2004 series.
The series caters for 1600cc F2 cars which originally raced in the
European F2 Championship from 1967 to end of 1971 and features Lotus,
Brabham, March, Tecno, Merlyn, Chevron & Lola cars, the majority of
which are powered by either Cosworth FVA or BDA (fuel injected or
carburettor) engines.
Whilst the FORCE has taken over the organisation of the series, the group
of F2 "Grandees" will oversee the technical regulations of the
series in conjunction with the FORCE.
The FORCE will be taking a "package" of both the FORCE Classic
Grand Prix and "International Historic F2 Trophy" groups to some but not all of
the race meetings during 2004, resulting in double, double-header FORCE
organised races at meetings (2 x Classic Grand Prix & 2 x F2),
whilst other events will be stand alone "Classic Grand Prix" or
"International Historic F2 Trophy" events, (we anticipate that this will mean new
venues will be available to both groups).
One feature of the 2004 "International Historic F2 Trophy" is
that the FORCE will be putting a lot of effort into rebuilding the
"International Historic F2 Trophy" Class C which will be for
un-winged F2 cars running on treaded Avon tyres to the same spec as those
used in the FORCE Classic Grand Prix F2 Classes (B1 & B2).
We wish to emphasise that the F2 classes will continue to be a feature of
some of the 2004 FORCE Classic Grand Prix races as with previous seasons.
We the FORCE, look forward to the 2004 racing season working with Terry
and the F2 "Grandees" to promote this exciting series, well
known for it's close racing.
A note for all historic racing enthusiasts the "International
Historic F2 Trophy"
includes many cars which were driven by great Grand Prix drivers such as
Jochen Rindt, Ronnie Peterson, Jackie Stewart, Jack Brabham, Francois
Cevert, Clay Regazzoni, Emerson Fittipaldi & Graham Hill not only on
their way to F1 stardom but also on their "weekends off" as non
points scoring "Graded Drivers" to give the up and coming stars
a bench mark to aim for.
Look out for further information relating to the F2 series on this and the
International Historic F2 Trophy websites as technical requirements and race event dates for 2004
are announced in the coming weeks.
Peter Williams
(March 761 DFV) & Klaus Fiedler (Tyrrell 007 DFV) take one Win each in
FORCE season finale on Bugatti Circuit at Le Mans.
Peter
Williams and Klaus
Fiedler each scored a Classic Grand Prix race victory as the FORCE
provided the headline event at Le Mans for their new for 2003 "LM
Story" historic motor racing festival staged over the weekend of 20th
- 21st September. In arranging the double header Classic Grand Prix event
The FORCE brought 3 Litre Grand Prix cars back to Le Mans to race on the
2.655 miles long Bugatti Circuit which had previously staged the 1967
French Grand Prix won by Jack Brabham in his Brabham BT 24 Repco with team
mate Denny Hulme 2nd (BT 24 Repco) and Jackie Stewart 3rd in a BRM P261.
For 2003 the 3 litre grand prix cars were supported by F2 and F5000 cars
in an 18 car grid representing cars from 1967 to 1977.
Both races were run in beautiful sunshine and 28°C temperatures and each
provided the spectators with exciting racing which included dicing
throughout the field and lead changes.
Qualifying took place on Saturday morning and provided Andrew Wareing
(Williams FW06 DFV) with pole position who was joined on the front row by
Peter Williams (March 761 DFV), the second row being filled by Nico
Bindels (Lotus 77 DFV) and Ian Giles (Eagle FA-74A Chevrolet - F5000). Row
3 was occupied by Klaus Fiedler (Tyrrell 007 DFV) and Ed. Jowsey (Lola
T400 Chevrolet - F5000) with Peter Wuensch (Brabham BT37 DFV) and Terry
Sayles (Surtees TS 20 DFV) lining up on row 4.
When pole man Andrew Wareing's battery failed on the grid for Saturday
afternoon's race after the formation lap he was pushed into the pit lane
and was required to start from there after everyone else had got away!
So it was that as the lights changed, Peter Williams made best use of his
front row position to lead the field away around the Dunlop Curve followed
by Ian Giles, Peter Wuensch, Klaus Fiedler, a slow away Nico Bindels and
the rest.
Klaus Fiedler moved through to 2nd place by the end of lap 2 and when
Peter Williams mechanical fuel pump failed causing him to drop back to 3rd
as he switched on his electric pump, Klaus took the lead and set about
controlling the race from the front. Peter Williams deposed Nico Bindels
for 2nd place on lap 6 and caught Klaus and set about challenging for the
lead. Further back Andrew Wareing was staging a storming comeback drive
having started last out of the pit lane he was 15th by the end of lap 1,
9th by lap 3 and 7th by lap 7 as Frank Lyons retired his Lola T332
Chevrolet - F5000 car with a water leak.
On lap 14 having seemingly fought off all of Peter Williams' advances,
Klaus suddenly slowed and pulled off at the "Chapelle" having
run out of fuel!
Peter assumed the lead which he had earlier fought for and led the field
home to take the flag first after 15 laps with Nico Bindels (Lotus 77)
taking 2nd place ahead of Ian Giles' F5000 Eagle in 3rd (taking the F5000
Class C2 win), Andrew Wareing (Williams FW06) who finished in 4th place
after his storming drive through the field, John Delane (Tyrrell 001 DFV)
5th (in doing so winning Class A2) and Peter Wuensch (Brabham) 6th. John
Delane's son Ryan made his European and FORCE race debut in John's Lotus
69 BDA F2 car and by finishing in 9th place took the F2 (B2) Class win.
Few people were
aware, but whilst he enjoyed his victory on Saturday, Peter Williams had
begun to suffer with lack of power towards the end of the race with his
engine refusing to rev above 8,000 RPM. Whilst the team worked hard to
remedy the problem it reappeared on the formation lap for Sunday afternoon's
race so Peter retired from the race to the pits without taking up his grid
position.
At the start, Ian Giles took the lead in his F5000 Eagle and led Nico
Bindels, Peter Wuensch, Andrew Wareing, John Delane, Klaus Fiedler and the
rest around the Dunlop Curve for the first time.
Peter Wuensch was definitely the man on the move as he was up to 2nd place
by "Garage Vert" corner and completed the first lap in Ian
Giles' tyre tracks! For 3 laps Peter Wuensch chased the F5000 Eagle hard
but as Ian Giles entered the "Garage Vert" corner on lap 4 the
throttle stuck open on the Eagle causing Ian to spin the car into the
gravel trap to avoid an accident!
As the cars appeared at the end of lap 4, Peter Wuensch led with Nico
Bindels 2nd, Klaus Fiedler 3rd, Andrew Wareing 4th, Ed Jowsey (up from
back row of the grid) 5th, John Delane 6th, Frank Lyons 7th and Terry
Sayles 8th.
From lap 4 to lap 9, Peter Wuensch led the race and looked good for his
first FORCE race win but on lap 10 he had dropped back to 5th behind Nico
Bindels as he struggled to get gears as his clutch began to give
problems.
Klaus Fiedler took the lead as Peter Wuensch struck problems and now led
from Ed. Jowsey in 2nd and Andrew Wareing 3rd.
On lap 11 Andrew Wareing moved ahead of Ed. Jowsey to take 2nd place and
on lap 12 Peter Wuensch sadly retired to the pits having lost the use of
his clutch altogether.
So it was that after 15 hard fought laps, Klaus Fiedler (Tyrrell) took the
race win with Andrew Wareing (Williams) in 2nd place, Ed. Jowsey (Lola)
3rd (taking the F5000 Class C2 win), Nico Bindels (Lotus) 4th, Frank Lyons
(Lola) 5th and Terry Sayles (Surtees TS 20) in 6th place. Ryan Delane
again took the F2 (B2) Class Win by finishing 8th overall having followed
home Mike Scott (Lola T300 Chevrolet) 7th who took the F5000 Class C1 win in
both races.
Andrew Wareing was awarded the FORCE "Jo Siffert Award" for his
two storming drives which resulted in 4th place from 18th away at the
start on Saturday and 2nd from 4th place on the grid on Sunday.
So ended the 2003 FORCE racing season and we're sure that everyone who
watched and took part in the 2 races at Le Mans would agree the season
finished on a high note - see you in 2004!

Incidents and
elongated Safety Car period takes the shine off the "Gold Cup"
as Martin O' Connell takes FORCE race win at Oulton Park in F2 Lotus 69
BDA to beat the F1 Classic Grand Prix Cars.
Martin O'
Connell won the "Rickett Grant Gold Cup" awarded to the outright
winner of the FORCE race at Oulton Park on Monday August 25th in Sandy
Watson's recently acquired F2 Lotus 69 BDA.
The Lotus, prepared by Zul Racing proved a very nimble and successful car
in the hands of the one time F3 Class B star beating the more powerful 3
litre F1cars in a race reduced to 4 racing laps and a 5 lap safety car
period.
The race lost the Tyrrell 001 of John Delane from the front row of the
grid when the car's spark box failed causing the race to be delayed whilst
the car was pushed from the grid.
After a second green flag lap, Andrew Wareing made best use of his pole
position as the lights changed to lead the field into "Old Hall
Corner" in his Williams FW06 DFV with Peter Wuensch (Brabham BT37 DFV),
Martin O'Connell, Mike Littlewood (Wolf WR1 DFV up from 10th on the grid)
and Malcolm Carter (March 711 DFV) and the rest in hot pursuit.
Sadly as the cars arrived at the Knickerbrook chicane for the first time,
Philip Walker and Andy Middlehurst tangled as they entered the chicane and
were both eliminated, further on Nick Rini went off at Druids, his Surtees
TS 19 DFV striking the barrier and bouncing back onto the track.
By the end of lap 1 Andrew Wareing led from Martin O'Connell who had
deposed Peter Wuensch for 2nd and as the leaders arrived at Lodge
Corner for the second time (after threading their way past the stricken
Surtees), Martin O'Connell outbraked Andrew to take the lead in the Lotus
69.
The race stewards took the decision not to stop the race, clear the track
and restart it, but to continue the race under safety car control whilst the marshalls moved Nick's car to a safer
place, the safety car picked up the leader on lap
3.
A flatbed truck was dispatched to collect the Surtees as the field
continued to circulate behind the safety car, their tyres getting colder
and engines becoming hotter. As the safety car led field arrived at Lodge
corner on lap 6 the flat bed truck was ahead and the crowd and commentator
hoped the safety car would follow the truck into the pitlane and allow the
cars to race once more but sadly this did not happen as the safety car
promptly led Matrin O'Connell past the truck as they crested Deer's Leap
to set off on yet another parade lap!
Next time around (lap 7) the safety car pulled into the pits and the field
could once again race, but as the field raced towards Old Hall once again,
Chris Ball locked up his cold front tyres and skated into the tyre wall in
his Brabham BT28 BDA!
So it was that after only 9 laps (5 of them following the safety car), the
flag came out and the "race" was over (as the race was a 20
minute race not a race of a pre-determined number of laps).
Fortunately no-one was injured in any of the incidents which happened
during the race.
Martin O'Connell (Lotus 69 BDA) won with Andrew Wareing 2nd in the
Williams FW 06 DFV, Mike Littlewood 3rd in the Wolf WR 1 DFV, Peter
Wuensch (Brabham BT 37 DFV) was 4th, Malcolm Carter (March 711 DFV) took
5th place (and the Class A2 win), beating Aba Kogan (McLaren M23 DFV) into
6th
place.

Sir Jackie Stewart rolled back the years at Oulton Park
on "Bank Holiday
Monday" - August 25th as he demonstrated Tyrrell 001 DFV at the
circuit on which he debuted this first Tyrrell F1 car 33 years ago!
Sir Jackie
Stewart, World Racing Drivers Champion in 1969, 1971 and 1973 rolled
back the years when he climbed into the Tyrrell 001 DFV designed by Derek Gardner
at Oulton Park on Monday lunchtime to do a number of demonstration laps
for an enthusiastic crowd of spectators who lined the circuit to watch
history repeated.
The car made it's
public and race debut in his hands at the Oulton Park Circuit in the
"Guards International Gold Cup" event on August 22nd 1970. Ken Tyrrell pulled off a real surprise as no one had even seen the car
before the team unloaded it from the transporter in the paddock. During the
race 33 years ago, Jackie was forced to make a pit-stop to free a
sticking throttle but thereafter set off to take the fastest lap of the
event with a time of 1:26.6 sec., 114.78mph.
During his demonstration run on Monday, Jackie put in a lap of the circuit
(which now features chicanes at "Foulstons" and "Knickerbrook")
in the 1 minute 46 seconds bracket which (had he recorded the time in
qualifying), would have resulted in him qualifying the car 12th on the
grid for the FORCE race.
The demonstration was made possible thanks to the efforts of John Delane,
the Tyrrell family, (who were in attendance), The FORCE, Brands Hatch
Circuits Limited and of course Sir Jackie Stewart. By the reaction of the
crowd who lined the circuit clapping and waving, all the efforts were much
appreciated.
Klaus Fiedler takes two hard fought FORCE Race Wins in 31st AvD
"Old Timer Grand Prix" at Nurburgring in his ex. Depailler
Tyrrell 007 DFV.
Klaus
Fiedler scored victories in both of the FORCE Classic Grand Prix races run
as part of the 31st Old Timer meeting at the Nurburgring over the weekend
of 8th to 10th August.
A very strong field of F1 cars representing the period from 1967 to 1978
took part in the two races run in the searing heat of the weekend which
saw temperatures vary from 38°C on Friday (when qualifying took place) to
35°C for Saturday's race to 32°C for Sunday's race.
Qualifying saw Peter Williams take Pole in his March 761 DFV from Mauro
Pane making his FORCE debut in his Tyrrell P34 DFV (6 wheeler), the two
driver being separated by 0.313sec. Nico Bindels (Lotus 77 DFV) and Klaus
Fiedler (Tyrrell 007 DFV) occupied row 2 of the grid from Frank Lyons (McLaren
M26 DFV) and Terry Sayles (Surtees TS20 DFV) who made up row 3 of the 19
car grid.
On Saturday, Peter Williams made best use of his pole position to
lead the field away but was out-dragged into the "Castrol S" by
Mauro Pane who put his 6 wheel Tyrrell ahead of the March with Klaus
Fiedler 3rd ahead of Frank Lyons and Nico Bindels.
Pane's lead was short lived as Peter Williams re-took the lead on lap 2
and despite Mauro's spirited slipstreaming of the leader, Peter held his
position. Sadly Mauro went missing on lap 5 when he switched off and
coasted to a halt out on the circuit after his water temperature reading
went off the scale!
Nico Bindels deposed Frank Lyons for 4th on lap 1 and set about chasing
down Klaus Fiedler, leaving Frank to fight off Terry Sayles initially
until Terry started to loose touch the McLaren as the race continued due
to fuel vapourisation.
With 2 laps to go, Peter Williams appeared to slow and spurred on by this
Klaus Fiedler set about reeling in the March driver who was indeed slowing
due to an oil leak from a broken outlet from the oil tank which was
coating the rear of his car (including his rear brakes) in oil. As the
cars appeared out of the "Coca-Cola Curve" for the last time,
Klaus Fiedler's Tyrrell led Peter Williams' March across the line to take
the flag and the race win.
Nico Bindels took 3rd in his Lotus from Frank Lyons McLaren M26 in 4th
place. Malcolm Carter took 5th place (and with it the A2 Class Win) in his
March 711 DFV despite progressively loosing the use of his gears during
the race, finishing with 4th only and Rolf Lamberty took 6th place in his
Hesketh 308E DFV.
Sunday's race was run later in the afternoon than on Saturday but
when the lights changed it was Peter Williams in his March who once again
made the best start to lead Nico Bindels (who out-dragged Klaus Fiedler to
the "Castrol S"), Klaus, Frank, Terry, Rolf Lamberty, Graham
Willcox and the rest out onto the first lap.
Nico Bindels chased Peter hard for 5 laps before moving ahead out of the
"Castrol S" to take the lead, Peter retired seconds later as a
misfire prompted him to switch off and park out on the circuit.
As the laps counted down, Klaus Fiedler gradually caught Nico and ran for
lap after lap in his wheel tracks, almost taking the lead into the "Castrol
S" on lap 10 and finally taking the lead on lap 11 through the
"Michelin Curve". As the leading pair arrived at the
"Coca-Cola Curve", Klaus began to slide so Nico drove wide to
avoid the Tyrrell, (but sadly not wide enough) as he clipped the rear of
the sliding car which resulted in him being pitched into the gravel his
race over.
Klaus continued to take the flag to win his 2nd race of the weekend ahead
of Frank Lyons 2nd, Terry Sayles 3rd, Rolf Lamberty 4th, Graham Willcox (McLaren
M14A DFV) 5th (taking the A2 Class Win in the process) and Ean Pugh (Brabham
BT 34 DFV) 6th.
The A1 Class Win (for un winged cars from 1966 to 1969) was settled in
favour of Ron Maydon who led home David Brown's ex. Piers Courage BRM P126
V12.

Wins for Sid Hoole
(Brabham BT 36) and Irvine Laidlaw (Lotus 69) at Charade "Festival
Historique Nostalgie" as The FORCE goes F2 in Clermont Ferrand.
Due to
circumstances beyond the control of The FORCE Organisation, the FORCE
Classic Grand Prix event held at Charade (Clermont Ferrand) over the weekend
of 25th to 27th of July became an F2 Class only event, but what scintillating
racing those F2 drivers produced!
The weekend produced two very exciting F2 races won by different drivers,
in very different conditions.
In blazing hot sunshine & temperatures of around 32°C the drivers
took the grid for Race 1 on Saturday lunchtime with Sid Hoole on Pole in
his Brabham BT36 FVA and American John Delane alongside in his Lotus 69
BDA.
When the lights changed Sid got away to lead the field through the first
corner followed closely by a fast starting Mike Scott (March 702 BDA),
John Delane and Irvine Laidlaw (Lotus 69 BDA) (up from 6th on the grid).
By the end of lap 2 Irvine Laidlaw had moved up to 2nd place with John
Delane now 3rd and Mike Scott's March back in 4th. So began a race long
duel between Sid and Irvine, the two were almost tied together and could
not be separated. Irvine wrested the lead from Sid on lap 5 but Sid retook
the place and held the Lotus at bay to the flag after 15 laps of very hot,
hard (but fair) close racing. Sid crossed the line 0.175sec. ahead of
Irvine in a photo finish.
John Delane finished 3rd in his Lotus 69 with David Brown (Brabham BT23C
BDA) 4th (taking the Class B1 win).
Sadly Mike Scott's spirited drive came to an end when he crashed
(fortunately without injury) on lap 8 after getting a wheel onto the grass
on the inside of the fast sweeping left hand bend high up above the
paddock on the return to "Virages Rosier", the unforgiving
concrete walls exacting heavy damage on the right hand side of the
car.
In total contrast to Saturday's hot sun, Sunday's race (held at 8:45 a.m.)
was held on a cool, damp track after earlier rain with mist hanging in the
trees to obscure much of the circuit from the spectators' view.
Sid Hoole had scratched from the race after a suspect head gasket had
caused the car to finish Saturday's race with hardly any coolant left in
the engine / radiator, Sid deciding that 1 win and the engine still in one
piece was a better result for the weekend than go for another win and risk
an expensive engine rebuild.
The race began with John Delane getting away ahead of Irvine Laidlaw, John
Moulds (Brabham BT23 BDA) in 3rd and Malcolm Ricketts (Lotus 58 FVA) 4th.
John Delane led for 2 laps but as the cars arrived at "Virage du
Petit Pont" on lap 3, Irvine had moved his Lotus 69 ahead of John's
to take the lead which he held until the flag.
Sadly for John Delane he slid off into the gravel on the slippery downhill
"Epingle de Champeaux" hairpin on lap 6, elevating John Moulds
to 2nd (winning Class B1) and Chris Ball (Brabham BT 28 BDA) to 3rd.
Malcolm Ricketts took 4th place in the Lotus 58 to make up for his none
finish on Saturday due to overheating.
One Win each for Ian Giles (AAR Eagle 74A Chev.) and Nico Bindels (Lotus
77 DFV) at FORCE Classic Grand Prix event at Dijon "Grand Prix
Historique De Bourgogne" over the weekend of 12th / 13th July.
Ian Giles
took pole position in qualifying and the race win in Saturday's FORCE
race, in his beautiful AAR Eagle 74A Chevrolet F5000 car after a
race long duel for the win with Nico Bindels in his ex. Gunnar Nilssen
Lotus 77 DFV who was beaten to the win on the line, (Ian crossed the line
only 0.102 sec. ahead of Nico after 14 laps of hard racing!).
The race for 3rd place was equally hard fought with Peter Wuensch (Brabham
BT 37 DFV) and Terry Sayles (Surtees TS 20 DFV) fighting hard throughout
the race with Peter taking the place at the end.
Klaus Fiedler chose the Dijon FORCE Classic Grand Prix event to debut his
ex. Jody Scheckter Tyrrell 007 DFV (from 1974) and was quick from the off,
qualifying 5th overall and maintaining that position in the first race to
lead home Peter Austin in his ex. Mike Hailwood Surtees TS 9B DFV in 6th
place.
Rob Harvey was first F2 car home in 7th place in his ex. Steve Thompson
Chevron B17C BDA, ahead of John Moulds' ex. Jack Brabham Brabham BT 23 BDA
in 8th place, (each taking a Class Win in the process).
In Sunday's FORCE race, Nico Bindels and Ian Giles again disputed the lead
throughout the race but this time it was Nico's JPS Lotus 77 DFV which
took the flag first, 0.800 sec. ahead of Ian's F5000 Eagle 74A Chev.
As in race 1, Peter Wuensch took 3rd place ahead of Terry Sayles in 4th
with only 0.500 sec. separating them as they crossed the line.
Klaus Fiedler's Tyrrell non started race 2 due to fuel vaporisation
problems, so it was F2 cars which filled the 5th and 6th slots with John
Moulds Brabham BT 23 BDA leading home Rob Harvey in the Chevron B17C BDA.
F1 "A1
Class" honours were taken in both races by Ron Maydon in his Cooper
T86C Alfa Romeo and Ean Pugh took the C1 Class win in both races (for
early F5000 cars) in his McLaren M10B Chevrolet.

Class Win for
Lorina McLaughlin at "11th Goodwood Festival of Speed".
In addition to The FORCE running a very exciting Classic Grand Prix double
header event at Dijon over the weekend of 11th to 13th July, a number of
the regular FORCE runners including Lorina McLaughlin ran their F1 cars in
the 11th running of the annual Goodwood Festival of Speed hillclimb event.
Lorina ran her ex. James Hunt McLaren M23 DFV in the event and was
successful in Winning Class 16 in the process. Congratulations Lorina.
The picture shows Lorina receiving her award from Stirling Moss and Lord
and Lady March.
Other FORCE regulars taking part were John Delane with Tyrrell 001 DFV,
his son Ryan in John's recently acquired Tyrrell 006 DFV, Andrew Wareing
with his recently completed Williams FW07 DFV and Rick & Rob Hall who
drove various cars over the weekend including from the 1950's a V16 BRM
and a Vanwall.

Mike
Littlewood takes Two FORCE Race Wins at Zolder in "29th
European Historic Grand Prix".
Mike
Littlewood scored another double header win in John Fenning's ex. Jody
Scheckter Wolf WR 1
DFV at a very hot Zolder as the FORCE provided the headline "single
seater" event at the 29th running of Zolder's
European Historic Grand Prix over the weekend of 20th to 22nd of June.
Mike was fastest in practise and led away from Pole to take the win in
Race 1 from the duelling duo of Frank Lyons (McLaren M26 DFV) and Terry
Sayles (Surtees TS 20 DFV) who took 2nd and 3rd places respectively, only
0.352 sec. apart as they crossed the line!
Peter Wuensch debuted his recently acquired ex. Carlos Reutemann Brabham
BT 37 DFV at the Zolder event and took 4th place in his first race with
the car ahead of F2 Class winner, ex. touring car racer Andy Middlehurst
in his Tecno T69 BDA who finished 5th.
Nick Rini took the F5000 Class honours in his Lola T300 Chevrolet with 6th
place after a race long scrap with Rob Harvey's F2 Chevron B17C BDA (who
finished 7th). Mike Scott took 8th place overall and the
"un-winged" F2 Class B1 honours in his ex. Howden Ganley March
702 BDA.
In Race 2, Mike Littlewood started the Wolf WR 1 from the pit
lane after concerns about the car running hot on the "formation
lap" leaving Frank Lyons to lead away from the grid.
Frank led
the race away with Terry Sayles, Peter Wuensch and Andy Middlehurst
chasing hard through out and swapping places amongst themselves.
After 2 laps the Wolf began to stalk it's prey and throughout the
remaining laps, Mike gradually faught his way through to the front, taking
the lead from Frank Lyons on the last lap to make it 2 in a row.
Once again Frank Lyons took 2nd in his McLaren but this time Andy
Middlehurst was 3rd in his F2 Tecno T69 BDA (once again taking Class B2
honours) ahead of Terry Sayles 4th,
Peter Wuensch 5th and Graham Willcox 6th in his ex. Denny Hulme McLaren M14A DFV (taking
F1 Class A2 honours).
Mike Scott finished 7th in his "un-winged" March 702 BDA
(to take F2 Class B1) ahead of Nick Rini's Lola T300 Chevrolet in 8th
taking the F5000 Class win.

Mike
Littlewood takes Two FORCE Race Wins in "3rd Grand Prix
De Pau Historique".
Mike Littlewood took two race wins in John Fenning's ex. Jody
Scheckter Wolf WR 1 DFV as the FORCE provided the headline
event at the 3rd running of the "Grand Prix De Pau
Historique". Mike never put a foot wrong and won in true
copybook style in the beautiful black and gold F1 car from
1977.
This year's event was a double header with 2 races being run
on Sunday 1st June.
Unfortunately, Peter Williams who proved fastest in qualifying
in his March 761 DFV (and finished 2nd in last year's event)
was denied the opportunity of racing for victory after a drive
shaft snapped on lap 1 of the 1st race whilst Peter was
leading.
Nico Bindels opened up his 2003 FORCE season at Pau and took
two 2nd places in his ex. Gunnar Nilssen Lotus 77 DFV, but was
made to fight for it in both races, as Sid Hoole racing in his
ex. Rolf Stommelen Brabham BT36 FVA F2 car proved a less
powerful but more nimble opponent around what always used to
be a classic F2 circuit.
Sid Hoole harried the F1 Lotus throughout race 1 but his
challenge was blunted when he lost the use of 2nd gear in race
1 and he had to settle for 3rd place. With a full compliment
of gears available to him , Sid challenged Nico Bindels for
2nd place in race 2, briefly taking the place only to spin and
finish down in 5th place but without doubt the sight of the F2
Brabham "punching above it's weight" amongst the
more powerful F1 machinery was one to behold.
Terry Sayles (Surtees TS 20 DFV) was 4th in race 1 (3rd F1 car
home) and Frank Lyons (McLaren M26 DFV) was 3rd in race 2,
after he and Terry had disputed the position for the duration
of the race, with Terry crossing the line 0.203sec. behind Frank after 15
laps hard racing.
Peter Austin (Surtees TS 9B DFV) and Lorina McLaughlin (ex.
James Hunt McLaren M23 DFV) took 5th and 6th in race 1, whilst
Lorina followed Sid Hoole home in 6th in race 2.

Klaus
Fiedler will be out in the Hill
GH-2 DFV which it was hoped would bring Tony Brise his
first Grand Prix win, but sadly the team's plans were halted as a
result of the tragic plane crash which killed Graham Hill, Tony and
other team members. Look out for the car in it's striking
"Embassy" livery in FORCE Classic Grand Prix events during
2004.
Don Edwards will be another
FORCE Classic Grand Prix newcomer in 2004 as he takes to the track
in the ex. Patrick Depailler Tyrrell 008 /
3 DFV in which Patrick won the 1978 Monaco GP. In 2002 the car
was driven at Monaco by Trevor Reeves (who was holding 2nd place
until 2 laps from the end of the race when his engine began to cut
out, eventually finishing 9th) in the 3 litre F1 event which
headlined the Monaco Historic weekend. Don is a very welcome
addition to next year's FORCE Classic Grand Prix
events.
